Prithvi Shaw had made his Workforce India debut earlier than the likes of Shubman Gill and Yashasvi Jaiswal however has been left up to now behind now that he cannot even be seen.
Prithvi Shaw was hailed the next Sachin Tendulkar. He was going to be a superstar batter. Things started well, as he made his India cricket team debut when he was 18 and hit a maiden hundred as well. But the trajectory of his career has changed since. Controversies took over his career. Fitness issues arose. And right now, he doesn’t even play for his domestic team, Mumbai.

Prithvi Shaw, unparalleled in talent
But if you ask Punjab Kings (PBKS) player Shashank Singh, Prithvi, who went unsold in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 mega auction, has more talent than proven young stars like Shubman Gill and Yashasvi Jaiswal.
“Yashasvi (Jaiswal) for sure ek bada naam hai (is a big name). Shubman (Gill) is a very talented player. There’s Prithvi Shaw. Agar vo back to basics aa jaye toh I think koi bhi near nahi hai uske (if he goes to the basics, no one will be near him),” Shashank told Shubhankar Mishra on his YouTube channel.
Needs to change a few things
Having seen Prithvi up close, he thinks that 25-year-old needs to slightly tweak his outlook. He must revisit his attitude towards things other than just batting, like his work ethic and fitness.
“I have known him for 13 years. We have played club cricketer together in Mumbai. He has a different point of view of things; he knows what is right and what is wrong, but as of now, if he changes his point of view, then I think usse bada koi cheej he nahi hai (nothing bigger than that). Attitude, work ethic, fitness, discipline—he must be doing it. I am 100% sure that he is so professional; he has played Test cricket. He must be doing it, but maybe if he modifies those things, then it will be better for him,” the PBKS player added.

Prithvi Shaw gets fitness suggestions from Shashank Singh
Lastly, Shashank busted such claims, like Prithvi Shaw doesn’t pay attention to his fitness. The all-rounder believes that one needs to be fit to play all formats, which Prithvi has done in international cricket, IPL, and domestically.
“If someone tells me that he doesn’t do fitness, then I won’t believe it. He plays Ranji Trophy, T20, One Day, and IPL, and it’s not that he played to play; he has performed and helped his team win matches. So he must be doing it, but maybe if he modifies those things, then it will be better for him,” he said.
However, this doesn’t mean that Shashank has no suggestions on how Prithvi can improve. He reckons that the young buck must focus more on his diet and work ethic. He can’t stay up until the morning and party, something he was accused of before getting dropped by Mumbai selectors.
“Work ethics—if he is sleeping at 11, then he should sleep at 10; if he can do something better with food, then he should do it. Whatever he is planning, it is not necessary that you and I will give him knowledge because he has 10 better people who are giving him knowledge, but obviously if he accepts those things and changes them, toh mere khayal se usse badi cheej Indian cricket mein koi nahi hogi (no one is better than him in Indian cricket),” Shashank concluded.
