BCCI names India Check captain, no Shreyas Iyer in England & Gambhir retired Rohit-Kohli?

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) will in all likelihood announce Shubman Gill as the India cricket team’s next Test captain. The board will announce the squad for England tomorrow, and Shreyas Iyer won’t be a part of it. Speaking to Team India, head coach Gautam Gambhir has talked about the retirements of Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli. We also know BCCI has chosen Mullanpur as the venue for the Indian Premier League’s (IPL) first two playoff matches. An Indian cricketer has filed a complaint for fraud. And Vaibhav Suryavanshi has been piped to make his India debut in the next 24 months.

Shubman Gill, India’s Test captain

Shubman Gill will be appointed India’s new Test captain on May 24. There were two other candidates, Jasprit Bumrah and Rishabh Pant, but Gill was suggested to be the front-runner. The BCCI will hold a press conference in Mumbai later today to announce India’s Test squad for England and Rohit Sharma’s replacement as captain.

Gambhir addresses Rohit-Kohli retirement rumours

Gautam Gambhir has denied playing any part in the Test retirement of Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma. Reports suggested that Rohit didn’t want to leave the game’s longest format, but the board and management wanted a fresh start. And Kohli wasn’t happy with how Rohit was being treated and decided to retire.

Shreyas Iyer not going to England

The BCCI won’t select Shreyas Iyer for the India vs. England Test series. The batter has made tweaks in his batting technique and plays with much more freedom now. The change has seen Shreyas excel in ODIs and T20s. But the selectors believe that his technique and method of play won’t be a success in Test cricket.
