The Duleep Trophy marks the beginning of India’s new domestic season. Ever since 1960s, the prestigious tournament has been played among the strongest players across the country as part of a vital run-in ahead of the Ranji Trophy. This year as well, some major Indian cricketing names are part of it, with the tournament returning in zonal format. No live streaming by cash-rich BCCI

It is quite bewildering for fans not to be able to watch one of the most prestigious domestic tournaments. Yes, not all are cricket nerds but in a country that idiolizes the sport, there are countless fans wanting to get the piece of action.

The BCCI is undoubtedly one of the richest boards in sports, let alone cricket. Due to the major success of the Indian Premier League (IPL) and entire framework of the system, the projected revenue has reached to a level that is projected to earn a whopping Rs 10,000 crore in the 2024-25 financial year alone.

Yet, BCCI has left a sour taste in fans’ mouth. Many fans have put forward their disappointments on social media. Some are even questioning the point of earning so much of revenue when you can’t live stream two domestic games, that too, when both of them are being played at the newly built BCCI’s Centre of Excellence (CoE).

According to reports, the Indian cricket board nearly has Rs 30,000 crore in reserves, yielding them over Rs 1,000 crore as interest earning alone. Yet, fans can only toggle on live scoreboard. The revenue is increasing almost 10-12% yearly yet there are numerous decisions that make fans unhappy.

The likes of Kuldeep Yadav, Mohammed Shami, Harshit Rana, Arshdeep Singh, Rajat Patidar and Riyan Parag are all featuring in the two quarterfinals of the Duleep Trophy. In the semifinals, more star power will be added when West Zone and South Zone sides will take field.
