3 methods Sunrisers Hyderabad can bounce again in IPL 2025

Sunrisers Hyderabad have had a collective failure to this point. Whereas their high order has been in shambles, their bowling has been poor in IPL 2025.

What promised to be a great season for Sunrisers Hyderabad after a runners-up finish in IPL 2024, all optimism has vanished first two weeks of IPL 2025. SRH are reeling at the bottom of the IPL Points Table with a hat-trick of losses since slamming 286, their second-highest total in their opening match. Pat Cummins & Co have struggled to put up runs and their bowling hasn’t been good despite presence of Mohd Shami, Adam Zampa and others. The SRH vs GT match on Sunday will be a good oppritunity to course correct for Hyderabad.

However, SRH still have 10 matches to go and they can bounce back. But for that to happen, a lot of things should go right for the Men in Orange, starting at the top. SRH need to get to 16 points at least to have a shot at the playoffs. That means SRH must win at least 7 out of their last 10 matches. However, for them to get back to winning, things must change. InsideSport takes a look at 3 ways, SRH can still make the playoffs.

Abhishek Sharma has hit a poor run of form, costing Sunrisers Hyderabad.

Travishek must fire

Travis Head is still SRH’s top scorer despite scoring 67, 47, 22 and 4. After a great start to the season Head’s scoring has taken a nosedive. His other opening partner Abhishek Sharma has struggled in every match with 24, 6, 1 and 2. Their highest opening stand this season was 45 in the first game. Since then, it hasn’t looked good. Their ultra-aggressive approach hasn’t worked because the players have failed with rash shots.

SRH’s opening stands in IPL 2025

  • 45/1 vs RR
  • 15/1 vs LSG
  • 11/1 vs DC
  • 4/1 vs KKR

While Abhishek failed to fire in the opening match, Ishan Kishan picked things up with a century. However, even he has misfired with 0, 2 and 2 since scoring that unbeaten 106 against RR.

Travis Head and Abhishek Sharma made all the difference last season, scoring 567 runs and 484 runs respectively with strike rates of 191.55 and 204.21. A good powerplay can lead to a good score which hasn’t happened for SRH after the first match. In fact, there is a gradual dip in their powerplay scoring rate. That is a cause of concern. Travishek must fire together and give SRH solid starts.

SRH’s powerplay scores in IPL 2025

  • 94/1 vs RR
  • 62/2 vs LSG
  • 58/4 vs DC
  • 33/3 vs KKR
Despite Zeeshan Ansari's terrific spell on debut, Sunrisers Hyderabad's bowling has been poor in IPL 2025.

Strengthen bowling discipline

Not only have SRH struggled at the top, their bowling has been poor so far. Abhishek Sharma has the best economy at 9.14, and that tells you how bad it has been. Pat Cummins has gone for 12.30 economy rate in 13 overs so far. Mohammad Shami has conceded at 10.00 economy rate in 13 overs. Simarjeet Singh, the other pacer, has conceded at 13.44 in 9 overs. Harshal Patel is the only pacer to keep the economy rate under 10.00 with 9.38.

The team’s lead spinner Adam Zampa has conceded runs at 11.75 ecomy rate in 8 overs. That must change.

SRH must be disciplined with their bowling to have any chance of defending total. Despite scoring 286 in their opening game, SRH ended up conceding 242 which was not a good sign.

Leverage emerging talent

IPL 2025 has already seen emergence of young stars. The likes of Digvesh Rathi, Aniket Verma, Ashwani Kumar and Zeeshan Ansari are to name a few. The good thing is that both Aniket and Zeeshan play for Hyderabad.

Like SRH backed Nitish Kumar Reddy last season, they must back Aniket and Zeeshan and have Rahul Chahar in the mix. Addition of Sri Lankan all-rounder Kamindu Mendis was a welcome sign. Now, the Indian uncapped players must take the centre stage.
